China’s Belt and Road investments have become central to the continent’s infrastructure — ports, highways, and digital networks — while Russia provides energy and military support. The U.S. response, through the Americas Partnership for Economic Prosperity, seeks to reclaim influence via sustainable investment.
However, this shift is not purely geopolitical. It reflects growing frustration with Western dominance and the desire for a more equitable global order. Critics argue, however, that new partnerships risk deepening dependency on other great powers.
Latin America’s future will likely hinge on how effectively it leverages this diversification — balancing sovereignty, sustainability, and strategic interest in a multipolar world.
